THE RAY PITTMAN BAND Getcha Some
(1981 - 2025 Crossroad Productions)

This North Carolina-based group offers a taste of traditional Southern rock, complete with harmonized guitars and organ. Released in 1981, the Ray Pittman Band's only album even occasionally takes us into Grinderswitch territory. The singer has a pleasantly raspy, coyote-like voice that suits the style perfectly, the guitars squeal tastefully, including slide guitar, and the organ fills the few gaps. The varied compositions allow us to comfortably travel from one style to another, always with that pulsating rhythm section, even on the ballads, and those playful, complementary, often melodic guitars that demonstrate the instrumentalists' undeniable skill without ever overdoing it. Quite enjoyable, it must be said, especially when a saxophone joins the fray, or even a whole section. A highly recommended album that won't be out of place between two albums by more well-known Southern bands.
